Introduction
The Yukon runs on workers. It runs on people who keep our communities moving every day. The work we do is the strength of this territory, and our Federation must reflect that strength.
I am running for President of the Yukon Federation of Labour because we can build a stronger, fairer and more united movement. My vision is guided by the purpose of our Federation found in Article 2 of our Constitution. These principles guide our work: fairness, equality, democracy and respect for every worker.
I have spent most of my time in Canada helping and supporting workers as a volunteer. I started by acting as a shop steward, and here in the Yukon I continue to do that work with Local Y010 and lately as Vice President for Rural Membership and as Chair of the Racialized Workers Committee with PSAC North. For more than a year I have also served as Secretary of the Yukon Federation of Labour. That role let me see up close how much the Federation can do for workers, and how it can become an even stronger force for change in the territory.
Along with this union work, I bring years of experience in information technology and communication roles. My job has always been about helping people, solving problems and keeping services running. Both sides of my experience come together and guide the way I work: stay clear, stay practical and always support the people who keep this territory moving.
Five Foundations for the Next Term
1. Support for immigrant and ethnically diverse workers
Our territory depends on many workers who come from different backgrounds. They deserve equal respect and fair treatment at every stage of their employment.
2. Reform of the Yukon Public Service Act
Public workers need clear rules, fair processes and modern standards.
3. Stronger employment standards
Many workers in the Yukon are part time or seasonal. They deserve clear rights, safe workplaces and fair wages.
4. Support for labour movements
When workers stand up for fairness, they strengthen protections for everyone.
5. Unity, transparency and accountability
Clear communication, open reporting and respectful collaboration build trust.
6. Improve the Yukon Workers Compensation Act
Firefighters in the Yukon deserve the same cancer recognition protections provided in other jurisdictions across Canada. The Act must reflect modern science and acknowledge cancer as a work related illness in firefighting.
